| Shannon | What to do 1st day there by myself Posted: Sat June 11, 2005 04:48 AM UTC
Flying into Shannon day before my travel companion. Any suggestions on what I should do? Also, if there much to see north of Shannon between Clare Island and Dublin or should we just focus on the south part? Will only be there little over 1 week.

I'd see a bit of Galway before heading south. It's a lovely town and the Connemara Bay area is beautiful. We did that and the Kerry area in just 3 days one time. <g> I've got a nice B&B up that way listed on my Galway page if you need a suggestion. We took a ferry on our way south.. made for a pretty trip.

Go to the cliffs of moher only 30 mins from the airport and go to the small village of lahinche which is close by, avoid tipperary and we couldnt see much of interest in limerick that you wouldnt get at home. Have a look at my travel page for more... Ludders

Cliffs of Moher is close and awesome - but you may want to wait for your travel companion to see that. You could go to Bunratty (only about 15-20 minutes from the airport). Small town you can see in 1/2 day and the other half can be spent at the castle and living park (made up to look like an old town) and the castle has a ceili dinner (my favorite) or a banquet that is reallt fun. We did one the first night and one the last night ---really a great way to start and finish the trip---plus you are that close to the airport!
I'm jealous, i want to go back so much!

Depends really what you are into. Cliffs of Moher definitely worth a look - but tend to agree will be even better with your friend. There's also Bunratty - a kind of "oirish" theme park worth a visit. Any of the seaside towns - even some lovely golf courses - as I say depends on what u like. If you're anything like me shopping is always an option - Limerick is not the nicest of Irish cities but is nearest to Shannon. Galway is doable - and much nicer - and lovely city - quite bohemian. Enjoy

I agree with the other posts. If your going to be in Clare visit the Cliffs of Moher. If you can also take a Burren tour that would be great too. The limestone landscape in contrast with the 9 million shades of green Ireland has looks awesome.
