| Albuquerque | Law student moving to Albuquerque Posted: Thu June 9, 2005 02:28 AM UTC
I am going to be attending UNM Law School this fall and am moving from Cincinnati, Ohio. Does anyone have any advice as to what parts of town are active and fun for someone my age (I'm 23 yrs old)? In addition, what areas are popular with students as far as housing is concerned? Also, any thoughts about UNM in general? I am a little stressed out after a recent first-time visit to the city. Any advice in regards to the above matter would be greatly appreciated.

And why did a visit to Albuquerque 'stress you out'? You'll be FINE!!! Yes, we are a lot different than Cincinnati, but with nature, relaxed atmosphere, and mostly sunny weather .... you'll learn to love your time here for your education.
If you search these forums, about 3 to 6 months ago we answered a ton of questions about neighborhoods and what to look for .... tuckered us out :) Search that info out and see if you find it helpful. Downtown is the party zone, there are some clubs in the North East Heights too. Just wander some of our tips and pages to get a feel for some of the stuff to do .... we don't have a lot of nightlife tips compared to other cities - we seem to prefer to write about road trips and day trips into the surrounding region. This doesn't mean that there isn't a night life - this IS a university town ... but we just don't seem to write about it :) So, take a deep breath, relax and surf VT for a bit - Kymba

As far as living - I think the downtown or Nob Hill areas would be great for a Grad Student. Great places for coffee, food, drinks, and if you find the time to want to paint the town, there are some kewl clubs downtown. There's a nice movie theater downtown, but unfortunately, I don't think there's many real bookstores in the area, except for the UNM Bookstore.
You'll be fine in Albuquerque, especially after you find your niche. Believe me, I'm from Albuquerque, but I've lived in San Francisco for 5 years, and am now living in Chicago. Albuquerque is much smaller, but it's still alot of fun. Try OPM, Kelly's, Martini Grill for drinks - Satellite for coffee - Gold Street Cafe for great sandwiches - Sadies for good New Mexico food...and don't forget to hang out in Santa Fe.
