I stayed in Villas Nicolas in M.A. and really enjoyed it. It's near the top of the mountain with a view down to the ocean(no matter where you stay here, try to get a room with a good view). Our room had a HUGE balcony (about the size of the room itself) with a hammock and seating, which was great. The room itself was nice, but basic. Don't expect Holiday Inn-type rooms anywhere in CR, unless you're paying $$$$. The hotel has a nice small pool too and staff were accomodating. If you want A/C, make sure you ask - I don't think all of their rooms have it. Also, they helped us book a canopy tour which we really enjoyed (we were picked up at the hotel). All in all, we liked it and would stay there again. The only drawback, which is probably true for most hotels there, is that you have to travel down the mountain to get to the beach. Also, driving up that mountain w/ a stick shift was just about the scariest thing I've ever done!

Jaco is a great little town with tons of restaurants and shops. We stayed at Tangeri Hotel and liked it very much. The beach in Jaco is not great, though. The surf can get very rough. I had read bad things about Jaco, but I found the people very friendly and me and my 2 daughters had no trouble walking around the town without my husband. I'll try to post my trip review within the next few days.
