| Oxford | Overnight parking for a week in Oxford Posted: Wed June 1, 2005 07:31 PM UTC
We will be visiting our daughter in Oxford for a week near the end of June before continuing on a self-guided tour of the country for another few weeks. It is cheaper to rent the car at the arrival airport and return it there, even though we do not need it in Oxford.
Are there safe and not too exorbitant places to leave the car for the week we will be in Oxford? I expect it will have to be outside the ring road, but that is no problem. |

There are 3 or four 'park and ride' places around Oxford. However, I'm not sure if you can leave your car there for a week. This is the website:
http://www.parkandride.net/oxford/html/oxford_frameset.html If you park for a day, it's really cheap. Not sure if you could pay 60p to leave your car there for a week?! Otherwise, you can find free parking in a few places around Oxford, if you get up early in the morning and have sharp eyesight! I don't suppose you can leave it at your daughter's college or wherever she's based? Sarah

Hi
There are 5 Park & Rides around Oxford but they are designed for daily use and not long term parking. If you rented from a company with Offices in Oxford (Avis, Hertz, Holiday Autos etc) perhaps you could do a one way rental and drop the car off in Oxford. Then do another another one way rental from Oxford for the rest of your journey and return it to the airport. This would probably work out cheaper than having the car parked up for a week and worrying about it being stolen or vandalized. Or you could ask the rental company if you can store the vehicle with them in the Oxford Area for the week. Regards Alan

Central Oxford is impossible for the motorist. If I were you I'd travel there by bus (good connections from H'row), and rent your car only when leaving. But, if you stick to your original plan, some hotels offer free parking for guests.
