Friend and I are visiting June 19th-26th at Swept Away resort. I want to 1) rent scooters - does anyone know the best place in Negril? 2) Visit a waterfall Dunn's? Mayfield? or YS falls? Which do yo climb? 3) Take a day trip and snorkel - which is best agency to use?

Dunn's River Falls is the one well known for climbing... It is near Ocho Rios - at least a couple hours drive east of Negril.

Your resort will have snorkel trips. It'll be very easy for you if you just go with your resort. If you do get a scooter, though, you can take a ride to the Cliff area and snorkel by yourself by Rick's cafe or LTU Pub. There are ladders into the water at both of those places. The snorkeling is very good around there and there are caves in the cliffs that you can explore.

When we were there, there was a scooter rental place right at the roundabout downtown. We got a little Honda that worked great for around $25/day, but that was at least 5 years ago. Can't miss it if it's still there. I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding some and they're probably all the same.

Scooters for rent are ten a penny in Negril, ask a bell boy at your resort to point you in the right direction. As far as falls go, Dunn's River is the best known and therefore the most touristy. Avoid days when cruise ships are in port in Ocho Rios and Montego Bay as it is jam packed. Steer clear too of the craft market where you will face serious hassle. Dunn's is the one to climb though but it is a good three hour drive from Negril. YS and Mayfield are gorgeous and far less crowded - and closer to Negril - but you can't climb them per se.

For scooters try Jah B's-the cab drivers will know where it's at.

Waterfalls: Dunns is too far (3-4 hours each way driving), I haven't tried YS but Mayfield was beautiful-not crowded and a nice climb.

Snorkelling: your resort may provide tours or you can walk on the beach and select any boat that cathches your fancy : )

We are off to Couples Negril in December, and I too enquired about the Dunns River Falls trip. Most people advised against this for the same reasons the others have so far on here.....3 or 4 hour drive each way and really busy. Obviously I can't speak form experience, but I here that Mayfield Falls is a better choice even if you can't climb it. Swept Away offer snorkelling trips for free as part of the all inclusive deal.

On another note.....Swept Away is supposed to be so romantic and intimate, I almost wish I'd booked it instead of Couples Negril!

Just a quick note: you do climb Mayfield Falls.
It can even be a bit tricky if you are short like me : ) but the guide will help you out.
It was a very good experience.
