Samothraki Island Travel Forum

I will travel to Northern Greece including Samothraki in July and would like to have general info on the island I hear free camping is easy there and nature is wild and beautiful with large forests,hotsprings and waterfalls.

Also looking for possible fellow travel companions or free campers.

I was there last summer, it is really a paradise for nature lovers. The locals are not (yet) affected by the mass tourism industry and relations are very simple. Great traditional taverns all over the island. On my opinion, the best place for free camping is on the discharge of Fonias river, near the Medieval Tower. Although, the "wild" municipal camping is also very good (and huge). Have a look at my Samothraki Island page in VT.

Stefanos is right!
if you plan to camp by the rivers make sure you have food, water and lots of sunscreen with you. also please please respect the site, its so sad to hike the mountain and come across the garbage people leave behind them!
samothraki is a magical place, i wish you a great time there! :-)

Stefanos and Magda thank you for the info I am sure it will be great to spend time there as I really like unspoilt islands away from mass tourism. I hear there are quite a few other nature lovers there in the summer.
