I am looking for a cheap accomodation in Funchal. I mean a guesthouse or a private room.

I stayed at Resindencial Zarco, Rua da Alfandega 113, Funchal last year. It's a nice place and very central. I think I paid 22€/night for a single.

I always stay at Residencial Santa Clara. It's just like staying at grandma's house - one year I even got invited to have dinner with the family and learned to play "crappo"? a kind of card game.
The view down toward the water is fabulous on the breakfast patio & it's just a nice, homey sort of place to stay. There's a communal fridge, some use of the mini kitchen facilities. Dona Manuella is lovely, friendly & helpful. Be forewarned it's a steep 5 - 10 minute climb up to the hotel from downtown.
Last time I stayed was 2002 & paid 27 euros per night which included breakfast. Also got a 5%discount - not sure if it was because I had stayed there before or stayed a whole week.

i found those well located, never stayed on those.
