Bentota Help needed - flying out in only 2 days!!
Posted: Wed May 25, 2005 10:36 AM UTC
Please Help!!

I've just found out that my wife and I are goinig to Bentota Beach Hotel in 2 Days time. My wife booked it as a surprise!

I've never been to Sri Lanka before and am unsure what clothing to bring etc. Does Bentota Beach Hotel have a dress code for dining ? And what about other restaurants and hotels? Obviously I don't want to lug a load of un-necessary clothes for nothing. I'm hastilly trying to select some places to visit in our 10 days. Can anyone recommend the best places ? We want to spend our time 50/50 relaxing and sightseeing etc.
Thanx Ed

Hi

If the restaurant is open downstairs' in the hotel it is a must had my 50th there in November what a meal just look smart do not over do it no shorts & you will have a meal to remember. To go out ask the tuk tuk drivers who will be outside your hotel to take you to the turtle hatchery. If when you get back you have any news on the Club Bentota could you please send me any info as I go back in November

Hi,

Dont worry about dress codes; take some light rainwear and many T-shirts. There is a lot to see around Bentota. Dont miss the small Buddhist temple in Ambalangoda - village and, above all (its a very special hint !) "Brief Gardens", a former governors retreat about 5 km distance from Bentota. Each Taxi-driver or Tuc-Tuc driver should know it, although only cannaisseurs use to visit it. It is a wonderful Ceylonese villa, surrounded by an incredibly beautiful tropical garden.
I`ve been there several times and am just planning to travel to this area by the end of September
If you enjoyed it, let me know!
Rgds to your wife

Willy

I agree with what the other posters have said. I would book your tours when you get there. The boys on the beach are the best to use. I would do probably 2 nights away visiting the elephant orphanage, Kandy and Syrigia. It should cost sbout 150 US dollars including accomodation per person. If you have more time i would consider adams peak. Dress codes in restraunts is casual - smart/casual.

One last thing - Ambalangoda is a short taxi from your hotel, when you are there, there is a little cafe / restraunt at the main village cross roads. It is very basic and caters for locals. Order curry and rice and you will be presented with one of the best meals of your life (but go with a empty stomach as you will get half a dozen curries plus other bits and pieces)

Hi,
In the Bentota Beach Hotel restaurant, men HAVE to wear long trousers for evening dinner. If you show up in shorts they will insist you put on one of their complimentary sarrongs!
