State of Arunachal Pradesh Road trip to Arunachal - need advice
Posted: Wed May 25, 2005 08:11 AM UTC
Hi,
I am planning to visit Arunachal Pradesh along with my wife and plan to drive all the way from Kolkata, sometime in November 2005. I am planning to cover the following places in this order:
Kolkata-Siliguri-Guwahati-Bomdilla-Tawang-Bhalukpong-Kaziranga-Guwahati-Siliguri-Kolkata.

Can any of you suggest whether this should be the preferred route. I am yet to plan the number of days I would spend in each of these places. I also need to have some info on the road conditions from Bomdilla to Tawang via Sela Pass.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

With regards,

Hi!

I had covered Arunachal Pradesh by road two years back.

We started off from Guwahati and covered Bhalukpong-Bomdilla-Tawang-Bomdilla-Bhalukpong-Tezpur-Itanagar-Ziro-Daporijo-Along-Tezu-Namdapha
Namdapha-Digboi-Guwahati.It was a 22 days enchanting tour.Bomdilla onwards it makes sense to keep two full days at each place. At Tawang you can stay for three days as you need to acclimatize bc of the heights. The road to Tawang is pretty good as it is maintained by the BRO and bc it is the border area. You will be visiting it at the right season. On our way to Tawang you can even think of halting at Dirang because otherwise it will be a strenuous continuous drive up.

Do let me know if you want more specific details.

Cheers,

Geetanjali

Hi Geetanjali,
Thanks a lot for your reply. The info about the road would be very helpful. I would be driving a Fiat Palio. Is it necessary to have 4x4 vehicle in that route? I am also worried about the road conditions in the plains of Assam as it would be just after the monsoons. I am not planning to go towards Itanagar and Dibrugarh, so I think this sequence of visit would be ok. How long does it take to reach Tawang from Bomdilla, if I do not plan to stop at Dirang? You have rightly mentioned about getting acclimatized at Tawang. But, I think it will not be much of a problem as I have already visited Ladakh before.
One more concern, I will not be booking any accomodation beforehand. What is the possibility of getting an acco, specially at Bomdilla, Bhalukpong and Kaziranga?

Thanks again for your reply.
With regards,
Saurabh Mitra
