This July, a friend and I are planning to hike from Santa Cruz to Llanganuco. I have done a little camping in my day, but my partner has done almost none. We both speak Spanish, and we will be acclimated by the time we make our trek. Here are my questions:

1. Do we need a guide to make this trek? Is the trail well traveled and well marked, or will we get lost and perish somewhere in the Andes? And is it safe for two american college students to make the trek alone?

2. Is it feasible for us to carry 20-25kilo backpacks for this trek? Is the trail so steep that I will be miserable carrying the pack?

3. If, as I suspect, we should be trekking with a company and guide, which do you suggest?

Normaly the rule is not to carry more than 1/4 of your own bodyweight.But if you have to hike in diffucult terrain, or if you want to feel comfortably, you shouldn´t carry more than 1/3 of your own weight. I think that 20-25 kg is way to much, and even though I have never done the incatrek, I don´t think you really need so much stuff. I did a 6 day hike in the rainforest of Ecuador with only a daypack,containing one spare set of clothes, camera, sleeping bag, a bottle of water, weighing not more than max. of 7 kg I think.

La caminata es de 4 días y 3 noches es el trekk más concurrente de esta parte de los andes; si tienes mas tiempo valdria la pena y aprovecharias en ir a ver el Alpamayo que es el nevado más bello del Parque; soy estudiante de Turismo aqui en Huaraz y por lo que sé es que haa un reglamento en que los turistas no pueden hacer trekk sin un guía; así que de todas maneras tendran que tomar uno podría recomendarle uno tal vez y hasta me gustaría acompañarlos porque hasta ahora no voy y deseo ir mucho por alli; se que hay señalizaciones y que es muy bonito; hay otras opciones como ir con una agencia que es lo mas seguro y mejor porque llevan a arrieros con caballos que te ayudan con el peso y no es muy caro te incluye todo lo que vas a necesitar por ejemplo:
