We are visiting Ravenna for the first time in July for 1/2 a day, any suggestions of what should do and places to visit in this short time.

I think there is no better answer than the "things to do" section of Ravenna travel page.... The same for the other cities you asked for.

For 1/2 day i suggest to stay in the city center and also visit Basilica di Classe ( just 5 Km south of the city ).You can visit this link :
