| Albuquerque | stables, trails for horses Posted: Tue May 17, 2005 01:47 AM UTC
Traveling to Albuquerque for long-term job assignment, looking for a good stable--any suggestions which part of town offers good horse accomodations plus lots of nice trails?

Horses are mainly to found along Rio Grande blvd in the NW section of abq. There are a few stables there but since i'm not a horse person I can't be more helpful. There are riding trails there along the Rio Grande river.

Are you bringing your own critter? or are you looking for someplace to play and ride? Most of my co workers board outside of the city limits, but there are several rental places closer in .... email me and perhaps I can get you more info :)
Have fun while here!

Bringing own horse, want to board him where I know he'll be well-taken care of and with access to lots of trails, fields, etc. Location not as important as facility. Must be well-managed and offer ability to ride year round (i.e., indoor arena) w/o trailering elsewhere.

Change in plans! Long-term job assignment canceled . . . thanks for your feedback on stables. Now husband talking about both of us retiring to NM sooner rather than later, so w/in two years will be moving out your way. This fall will spend 2 weeks checking out suburbs of Albuquerque and will also spend some time in Las Cruces. We own a mustang (rounded up on the Oregon range) and will probably get another horse once we relocate. My new search: reasonable housing (LOL) close to fiesta field as husband wants our trip to overlap Balloon Fiesta 05.

Bernalillo, NM is just north of ABQ on the I-25 ....... rural in places, suburban in others ... worth checking out for horse property .... as is Corrales and Alameda (other 'burbs w/ horse zoning) ..... Go south of ABQ into Las Lunas and Belen for the cheapest horsey properties that I know of.
Balloon fiesta begins early this year .... Sept 30th is the start date. Check out Bernalillo and Corrales for B&Bs that are close to the fiesta, yet still have the flavor of the areas you might settle in yourselves. Good luck! Kymba

Be advised that all lodging in abq is booked solid during the balloon fiesta. Make your reservations ASAP, now is not too early !!
