Hi Albuquerqueans (Albuquerqueites? Albuquerquelanders? Albudwellers? Whatever..)
With great anticipation, I get to come check out your city for a 3-day weekend in June (business trip). Sadly, I won't get to see much at all, since I'll be in seminars and whatnot all freakin' day. But after 9:00pm I'll be let loose on your town! My teaching conference is being held at UNM, so I'll be staying in the residence halls there. Since I'll be carless, I don't expect I'll wander far from campus. Is there anything to do within, say, a mile of UNM at night? Bars? Clubs? Live music? Is it safe to wander in that area or should I plan to just hole up in my cell? Gary |

Are there bars near a University? Is the Pope Catholic?
I must recommend this restaurant also http://www.elpinto.com/family.html

Live music with bars are mostly downtown about a mile west of the U on Central AVE. If you go there at night I'd recommend a taxi since you have to walk through a mildly seedy part of Central.
On the otherhand east of the U along Central is very pedestrian friendly and there are many good places to eat and a few bars. Try Kelly's for outdoor food and microbrewery and try Flying Star cafe for great desserts and coffee. There is a Starbuck's in the U bookstore and good food accross Central from the bookstore at the Frontier restaurant.

Check on the web and see how late the bus for Central Ave. run. They just might run till 11 pm or 12. And head east or west on Central. Downtown is more dancing and live music, that would be going west on Central. But Nob Hill has lots of places to eat and Bars, that is going west on Central. Both are very close to UNM. Have fun!

Dont' have much else to add right now ........ BTW, I prefer Albudwellers myself :) And please, don't hole up in your cell .... go out and wander ..... just use the same precautions you would traveling anywhere, and you should be fine.
Have fun, it's pretty warm right now :)
