Can't tell you anything about living there, but I did come back from a vacation there. there are no hospitals on great exuma. some hotels have internet, but I don't know anything about the cost for residents.

it's a sleepy island, beautiful, but sleepy. def take a visit before making major plans to move!

I hope if you do move to the Bahamas (any island) that you are independantly wealthy, or have a job already lined up. Jobs in the Bahamas go only to outsiders if a Bahamian cannot perform that job. Work permits run around 24,000 dollars U.S for 2 years. If you have any further questions, drop me a line.

Hello, Exuma does not have any major Hospitals but they do have Clinics which can treat you adn then airlift you to Nassau in the event that something was to happen. The Education in Exuma is mainly Government education, which in the out Islands is relitavely good, there are alot of foreign teachers teaching in the out island schools. You can visit www.hgchristie.com to search for real estate. If you are wealthy and want a beachfront property or house that can run you from $900,000.00 to about $4 Million (acrages) and for Private islands a bit higher. The property in Exuma has sky-rocketed in the past few months with the opening of the Four Seasons resort. If you are on a medium budget you would want to live in the Bahama Sound area where houses run from about $250,000-$300,000. I can not tell you about running a business but contact the Ministry of Tourism and I am sure that they will welcome you idea's warmly. You might even get incentives. Internet IS readily available in houses, You can easily get Satellite T.V. Any further questions please e-mail me at rhyan04@yahoo.com
P.S In regards to the work permit, once you have expressed your business venture and contacted the Minister of Tourism, they can then speak with the Ministry of Labour and Immigration and arrange a price, and the the previous reply Work permit prices vary by the job you are going to perform, as for a maid the work permit costs $300.00 and for an Attorney the price can go up to $20,000.00, so please do not be MISINFORMED.
