| Caye Caulker | tree tops? Posted: Wed May 11, 2005 02:03 PM UTC
My friend and I are headed to Caye Caulker in July and we are wondering where to stay. Tree Tops sounds like a popular hotel.... does anyone know how far of a walk it is from Tree Tops in to town? If we went out at night, would we be able to walk back to the hotel? Any other hotel recommendations that are close to the main part of town? Thanks!!

Caye Caulker is a small island, but the tourist area is a bit spread out. To me, the bigger issue would be how far the hotel is from the Split, which is what passes for a beach there.

Far? Nothing is far on Caye Caulker. Even if you adabt to the walking speed of the people overthere it wouldn't take you more than 20 min to walk over the hole lenghte of the island. I can't tell you how far it is from the tree tops, but it is not gone be a long walk.
I stayed in 'the tropics hotel'. Very nice I have to say. You have your one bathroom and a fantastic sunrise caribian style over the reaf. More to the north the island is narrow, so you are almost sure you can find a (cheap) hotel with this lovely view. If you are gone stay in the tropics hotel and are planning a snorkel trip ask for Alex. He is a good gide who goes in the water himself (those are the best) to point out special things. I left some of my photos at the internet: www.woophy.com Have fun, Hans

Hans,
Did the Alex that you met have the nickname Sunshine? Just curious b/c I was recently in Caye Caulker (returned to the states on 5/16) and i also met a diving/snorkeling guide named Alex. I'm almost positive it's the same guy. How many guides named Alex can there be on that wonderful, but oh so small island, right?

Yes I think he is the same person. And he was a very happy ' sunshine' enthousiast telling guide. You met him on your snorkling trip?

My friends and I actually met "Sunshine" at the Lazy Lizard during a performance of Titiman Flores (Belize's most famous punta rock artist . . . you probably already know this). Yes, he's very friendly and enthusiastic, perfect personality of a snorkeling guide.
I knew it had to be the same person. Caye Caulker really is a small island, huh? It's kind of cool to know that you can go abroad and end up running into people that you've read about on a message board.
