Meteora help please, on meteora!
Posted: Wed May 11, 2005 02:55 AM UTC
Good day! I hope someone cane help me, and quick!

I am a tourist from the Philippines. I saw a review of Koka Roka in Kalambaka, and my family and I are considering it.

I will be traveling with my parents and younger sister to Greece this late May. I have been so worried, because all the guided tours of Meteora are so expensive (at least Eu 105 for only an overnight stay!). However, my mom and my dad are not as young as they once were, and they can’t walk or hike for a long time, so we understand that we might need a guided tour to take us along.

But still, I don’t want them to spend so much money. The thing is, this tour is mostly for me. I wrote a novel on Meteora, and now we’re all going there, but I don’t want anyone to spend so much money on me.

I would like to know if we could still possible catch buses in either Kalambaka or Kastraki to take us to the monasteries of Meteora, so we don’t have to go and take such long walks up the mountains? I am so excited to go to Greece, and to finally see Meteora, but I must confess that I don’t have money enough to spend so much on a tour.

Also, are there buses from and to Athens? How often do they leave, and how much will we have to pay? I'm comparing prices, to see if it would be worth it to just get a Eu 120 tour, or get the bus from Athens, go to Koka Roka in Kastraki, go to each monastery on a bus (if there is one), move at our own pace, then depart for Athens on another bus.

Help!:)

I think you better take a guided tour as standard bus services do not go to the monasteries. On top, getting there by bus from Athens will also be very tiring for your parents.

Thank you! But what about day tours? Are there any tours that depart from Athens in the morning, tour Meteora the whole day, then go back to Athens at night? I was hoping for a cheaper, Meteora day tour.
