Hi,
I'm moving to Albuquerque from Canada in June to do a year of training at UNM. I've read all the previous responses to people asking about relocation advice and they've been very helpful. Thank you. I do, however, have a few additional questions. The apartments near campus, I have been told, are expensive and not well maintained because they will pretty much always be rented. Is this true? I've also read about downtown revitalization and am wondering if you would consider it a safe place to live now. I've searched on the internet and found all sorts of apartment complexes but does anybody know of another resource that lists rentals that aren't run by big property management companies. I've already tried UNM off campus housing and the Albuquerque Journal. Thanks for all your help. |

The downtown area has some newer nice looking aparments. During the day, downtown is safe. At night, like in any larger (US) city, you need to be careful and alert. The UNM area is very spotty in terms of the quality of apartments. I would say you are probably going to get what you pay for.

I have friends who have bought homes downtown, and they love it :) Untill you actually hit town, it's hard to refer you as those properties not run by the bigger companies are usually advertised w/ signs in the yard :)
If you are into older and funky, there are lots of choices around. New and trendy would be the newer places they built in Downtown.
