We will be in Longyearbyen from June 11 - 13, 2005 and hope to spend two unforgettable days there. But since it is not really high season, it might be difficult to find something exciting to do!
Any suggestions and/or anybody there at the same time who would like to meet? Looking forward to your replies! |

Hi,
good idea to go to Svalbard! I am unfortunately not going there myself in June, but maybe you can contact some of the VT members who actually live in Longyearbyen? Your timing is not the best in terms of snow activities, and it is not summer with flowers etc yet. More like spring: it will be good birding. Not too far from Longyearbyen there are birdcliffs with thousands of birds nesting. You will need a boat. Check availability. If snow conditions still hold, there may be an opportunity to get out snowmobiling. If ice conditions are good, that is, ice-free! - take an excursion by boat on the Isfjord to barentsburg or elsewhere. For just hanging out at Longyearbyen check my pages for info, and ther is more to see and do than what I have put into my pages. You will easily fill your days! Happy journey! Saagar
