| Sintra | Sintra as a day trip? Posted: Thu May 5, 2005 06:38 PM UTC
I plan to spend 6 days in Portugal at the end of July and will probably just stay in Lisbon and take day trips to other cities. Can Sintra be done in one day? What other day trips would you suggest?
Instead, would you suggest I spend just 3 days in Lisbon and then the other three somewhere else? I need to get back to Lisbon to catch the sleeper train to Madrid. Thank you! |

Yes, Sintra could be visited in one day. In fact there are trains to that village from Lisbon. Trains to Sintra leave from the Rossio station. The journey takes 50 minutes.
I suggest to spend some hours in Cascais. It is a good place to chill out.

Sintra can be done in one day as a day trip from Lisbon. We even had time to stop at another palace (Quelez) on the way back. If you go, be sure to check the opening schedule for the attractions, different ones were closed on different days. And there is a really nice bus service that leaves from the train station and stops near all of the major attractions, you can get an all day pass.

Ah...I forgot...visit the Palace of Mafra. This is not far from Sintra if I remember well.

Atention.. Rossio Station is closed you have to take the train in Sete Rios Station near Zoo subway station.
And Sintra will take a all day.. go early in morning. see trains in www.cp.pt, sintra Line in Lisbon

I thought they closed Sete Rios......I was there in March. Anyways, Sintra is nice, you can even walk to the Palácio da Pena - it´s on a hill if you want to
enjoy the nice scenery. If you are not keen on city life and some murky atmosphere (which I experienced in Lisbon), I would rather stay somewhere else. You can visit Lisbon easily within 3 days - I mean the most important sights!! I would go to the seaside, it is very nice, especiailly Cascais. Good luck!

I returned yesterday evening from an enjoyable 3 night stay in Lisbon. On Saturday we made a day trip by train to Sintra, and recommend this: there are trains every 20 minutes from Sete Rios (metro: Jardim Zoologico), and both the royal palaces are spectacular.
For excursions, or stays, further afield, consider Evora or Coimbra, both of which are beautiful.
