Surfing/Weather in July
Posted: Tue March 18, 2003 05:16 PM UTC
I am heading to Playay Hermosa/Jaco in late July. I've heard this is the rainy season. Is this a bad time to visit? How's the surf that time of year on the Central Coast? Is Jaco's nightlife still bubbling at that time as compared to Spring? Many thanks.

I usally go to Costa Rica durning Feb/March because it is the dry season. It will be humid. The nightlife will be just fine but not as good as in the spring. Try going to Tamarindo, alot of surfers go there, there is also a beach called Wiches Beach, you will need a 4 wheel drive to get there if you can get there at all during the rainy season. Good luck and have fun. Hope some of this help.

hi

tamarindo is defenitely the best option for surfing in costa rica. i wouldn't care about the weather. it might rain sometimes 2 hours during the afternoon. apart from that you should be fine. if you wanna go to jaco because of the nightlife ... it's your decision. from a playa-point-of-view i don't recommend going there.

have a good trip and que disfrutes el imperial,
karakal

Dont worry too much about the weather, there can still be surf almost any time of the year. Playa Hermosa south of Jaco is a great spot, plenty of hotels and a few sodas to eat at, very surfer oriented. Kind of reef/point break. Jaco is a major tourist town, closest to SJ and the surf is not really good. but there are tons of hotels and restaurants. Tamarindo is a good surf destination, there are also plenty of other spots just a bit south of there. Witches Rock is north of Tamarindo and there is a surf camp there; check out their website. I have heard good things about Mal Pais, at the southern end of the Nicoya penensula. Good luck, you'll have fun! Pick up a CR guide book for more info....
