| Santander | From Bilbao to Santander Posted: Tue May 3, 2005 01:07 PM UTC
Hi,
I'm attending a friends wedding in Santander in July 2005 and have booked (cheap) flights from London Stansted to Bilbao for my wife and 2 year old daughter. What is the best option for travelling through to Santander? I'm thinking about hiring a car but would "prefer" a relaxing journey. |

You can travel Bilbao-Santander with regional trains (FEVE company):
http://www.feve.es/02/lineas/linea1030.html It's supposed to be a very scenic trip (I've done it only by car - I do love driving ;-)) - the area is wonderful). Probably there are buses covering this route as well. Enjoy!

Hi,
the train might be a beautiful journey, but it takes quite a long time (3 hours). I think that is why few people use it. Probably the easiest and most comfortable way is by coach/bus. Alsa company has very modern and comfortable buses running almost every hour. The trip takes only 75-90 minutes and goes along the coast most of the time, so it's also beautiful landscape. You can find timetables and book online at: http://www.alsa.es/portal/index.asp?lang=en you can even print your tickets at home in your printer. You can find in my Bilbao pages how to reach the coach station from the airport. If you need more information, just ask. Cheers, Susana.

Absolutely. Forget about the train. The best option is the bus.
You can take a bus from the airport to Bilbao (1 euro) and then the underground to the bus station (1 euro). Buses to Sanatnder run almost every hour and cost about 5 euros. Next time, you may consider flying to Santander directly with Ryanair.
