| Sint Maarten | Questions on Snorkeling on our own Posted: Mon May 2, 2005 01:57 PM UTC
We will take our own snorkel gear and wonder were the best place to snorkel on our own would be.
We will take one of the snorkel trip also, but like to snorkel from a beach. We are staying at the Belair Beach Hotel in Belair located on tranquil beach. Has anyone stayed there or know anything about the Hotel or Beach there? |

Don't know about that specific hotel, but here's a beach guide listing that should help you get started: http://www.stmartinstmaarten.com/beaches.html
There is one decent snorkeling reef at Orient Beach, & you can do your own day trip to the tiny island of Pinel for a great day trip by ferry to go snorkeling. I can't recall for sure, but I think we caught the ferry from Marigot or nearby...

Don't try to do it at Long Bay on French side. There are larger waves and a lot of rocks. I tried and couldn't go out due to the rough conditions. I was told that Friers Beach had good snorkeling from the beach, but I didn't go.
