Madonna di Campiglio Ski season?
Posted: Mon May 2, 2005 02:03 AM UTC
When does the ski season start here, ie. when is the mountain covered with snow? Is this a resort where we can ski at all week (we're intermediate skiers) or will we get bored after a day or two?

Thanks!

Ski season start on middle november and goes up to March/April.
There are several wonderful sloops. Tre Tre is the more difficult. In Italy we define a difficult "nera" (black). You need to be advance to ski on this level. Spinale and Pradalago are for intermediate. Campi Carlomagno is for training and first timers. The mountain and the town are wonderful. You will not be bored for sure. You will not get bored and make sure you will eat at least once: polenta and funghi(polenta and mushrooms).

There is already a reply from someone else about the season etc. There are plenty of lodges for accommodation, and a variety of restaurants varying from fast food to al'acarte. I was there during January 03, and although the village was very busy, there was plenty of room on the various runs. The whole vast area was fully covered with fine fresh powder snow. There is a good/inexpensive bus trip to and from Trento which, I recall, runs several times each day. Trento is an interesting regional capital (Trentino region)and has a wonderful castle to visit. It is also a major rail stop between italy and Austria.

There is a long season in Madonna di Campiglio beginning in November and going through until Mid April. The beiginning and the end of the season are pretty quiet. End of January and through February are the best months. Generally good snow conditions, and sometimes up to 9 metres at the top and 2 metres inthe village. With a skirama pass you can ski Madonna di Campiglio and Marilleva which takes in the toughest black run in Italy(reputedly). My wife and I are intermediate skiers and found plenty to keep us amused for two weeks, this winter just gone.
