Durban Moving to Durban...looking to surf
Posted: Sat April 30, 2005 10:56 AM UTC
I am going to be spending a semester august through december in Durban. I was hoping to find an inexpensive appartment not to far from a beach with good surf, but also within reasonable distance of the Kwazulu Natal Uni. Could anyone recommend an area that might meet these protocols, and how to go about finding an apartment via internet/telephone? Or I have the chance to live in the Uni dorms and try to buy a cheap car for going to the beach, which option would you recommend?

Thanks for your help

Try www.durban.co.za. You can advertise in there. I see most flats in the city is about R2000.

You can easily find a room to rent in a house with other students, or twenty-something professionals. They are advertised in the Durban papers and most probably in the university. Obviously right near the uni will be expensive, but if you look for a house in the Umbilo area you will find it is probably a lot cheaper and only a few minutes drive further away from the uni. If you are going to buy a car anyway this should work out more economical for you. Anything advertised on the web is going to be expensive.... but try the iol website for the durban papers.

Again - which campus are you looking for?

My parents live in Umbilo and we have rented out a spare room with a seperate entrance to Medical Students, as we are across the road from the Med School.

Please feel free to email me if you would like more information - binkieloo_69@yahoo.com. Also my sister is at the Howard Campus so you could share rides with her if that's where you were heading.

Enjoy

Bianca
