San José Booking Hotels Ahead of Time
Posted: Fri April 29, 2005 05:55 PM UTC
Hello, I'll be going to Costa Rica in the wet season and I'd like to hop from location, hotel to hotel, without making commitments of reservation. Is this feasible? Will I need reservations in the majority of places I go, or are there usually enough vacancies and is this system accepted? Help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you, Christopher

I think that what you want to do is duable. Most often tourists aren't travelling in the wet season, and I usually advise clients to pre-book ahead if they are travelling between November-April. Hostels are accesible but have limited capacity...so remember, that you may be stuck looking for something else where. I would try and have a good idea of where you want to stay in the bigger centres...like San jose, Tamarindo, Liberia etc. Try www.hostelworld.com if you havent already...Oh, and Costa Rica is one of the most expensive destinations to travel to in central america.

I would have a guide book with you so you at least have an idea of what is available. Lonely Planet is good for budget travel. That is a good time of year for the person who doesn't want to make plans ahead of time. You might even be able to get a little break on the price in some places. Never hurts to try. Have a great time.
