HI, I live in Rockingham and work in Fremantle. Do a google search and you'll get a rough estimate of the types of accomodation available. The city centre will be more expensive, but that depends on where you're coming from and what you're used to paying. Perth is cheaper than the east coast cities. You could stay at the backpackers(right in the centre of town)till you find somewhere. I would not recommend Ocean View Hotel, although cheap and central, known to be very rough.

Hey, I just spent a year living in Mosman Park, it was the best! It is 2 stops from Fremantle on the train, and only 20 minutes into the city. It is known as a very pricey suburb because the riverside part of it is full of million dollar homes, however if you look in the part near Stirling Hwy (a major road to Freo) the prices are very good. We paid $165 a week for a 2 bedroomed place, so you could get something even cheaper if it was just one bedroom you were after. Renting in Freo itself is not too bad either, as long as you're happy to live in an older, multi-storey property. Either way, try to get something on the train line, as that makes the trip into Freo so quick and easy.
