Hi Louise, Ancona is an underrated City. You could check out the Churches over-looking the port.(Some of the oldest in Italy)
Definitly go to piazza del papa, Here you will find some interesting Historical buildings. But mainly walk around the small back streets to find an place that takes your eye to eat,after all said and done you Will eat well in Italy. Enjoy.CIAO.
