Masai Mara Game Reserve Mara Simba Lodge...
Posted: Wed April 20, 2005 10:19 PM UTC
Has any one stayed at the Mara Simba Lodge? Will the wildlife be close enough to mid September to see them from this location? We have 2 and a half days there if we go with this package. Also, anyone familiar with "Friendly Planet Travel"??
Thank you

I have not stayed at that lodge, but any place in Massai Mara is well located as per game viewing. They take you out in safasri vans twice a day as a general rule, so you should have plenty of photo ops. You might ask your agency about the frequency of safari trips.
The wildlife generally does not frequent the lodges, but one night I awoke to find a hippopotamus and her calf grazing noisily on the brush beneath my bedroom window! (We were housed in separate little cabins, cleverly designed to fit in with the landscape, and there was a river down below us....evidently that is where the hippos came from!) Alas, I dared not try to take a picture, as there was an electric light out there and the cow would have been able to see me. And we must never underestimate the speed of an avenging mother!
The only creatures there in the daytime were the hyrax..a friendly and cute rodent.

I have just returned from Masai Mara and stayed at David Livingstone Safari Resort which is located on the Mara River. We booked a flying safari and we were greeted by dancing masai and champagne. It was truly fantastic, food was fresh, tasty and well presented. Our driver guides Joshua and Dickson where the most hospitable two people I have ever found in the whole of Kenya. We booked through a company called African Mecca Safaris and it was truly paradise for 3 nights. The Lodge staff were very very nice.
