My husband and I are thrilled to get some time away from our kids and visit a city we fell in love with 7 years ago when we first went to Guanajuato. We will be arriving by plane in the airport closeby at Leon. I've seen recent warnings about taxi crimes (mostly in Mexico City), so I wanted to be sure to ask about any tips taking taxis from the airport to Guanajuato or around close-by areas. Are they pretty safe there in this region? Last time we were there we took buses and taxis all around the states of Michoacan, Guanajuato and Jalisco. Also, any opinions on what are some good day trips and any good tour guides to use? We'll only be there for 5 days and we want to make the most of it!

You should not worry. IN the airport, there is a taxi purchase counter where you tell them where you are going and they sell you a ticket. The fares are controlled and taxi service are registered. SHould cost you $25-$30.
