Well, Not really. Overall the D/FW area is safe. Just make sure you avoid the down-town or southern parts of city after 9pm.
In FW try the houston street on weekend, texas motorspeedway,

There are places in every city that you need to avoid. In fort worth I would just say use common sense, if it doesn't look like a good neighborhood then it probably isn't. Downtown is pretty nice and is pretty safe. With Dallas you pretty much just want to stay out of the south part of it especially at night. Crime is pretty rampant in that part of Dallas. With Downtown Dallas it is actually the place with the least amount of crime in Dallas. Both Downtowns are generally pretty safe.

And then of course never forgot the old adage: "Don't Mess With Texas!"

As stated already... if it doesn't look like a good place, it probably isn't. The one place I would suggest being careful is Northside, especially at night.

I realize this reply is almost a year from the question, but I thought I would put in my two cents worth for future travelers.
I get around Fort Worth quite a bit and the areas that you want to stay in are as follows: Cityview Area: Area surrounding the intersections of I-20 and Bryant Irvin and I-20 and Hulen Street. Downtown: Near the intersection of I-30 and I-35 (Do not venture south of I-30). Far-Northside: Area surrounding the Intersection of I-35 and Western Center to Meacham. The Cultural District: Area surrounding Forest Hill to University to Montgomery on I-30. South of I-30 downtown (The Hospital District) is full of homeless. Anywhere south of I-30 but East of I-35 is a bad idea (ghetto). North of downtown on Main and Henderson all the way to Loop 820 is not such a good idea either. I recommend staying in the areas above. Hope that helps. AA

Hi Anthony -
Welcome on board the VT Explorer!! And thanks for the safety tips. Hopefully, the previous questioner 'got out alive'. In our case, they are timely indeed, because we are headed for Cow-Town in 2 weeks and are collecting all kinds of info tidbits from this forum. -- So, everything around the art center downtown is OK, right?

Personally, I would stay out of downtown. Not so much due to crime, but because of crowded traffic and such. The one-way streets downtown can be confusing and if you have to deal with them during your entire stay, it may make things difficult. If you do stay downtown or near it, stay north of I-30. South of that can run you into som dicey neighborhoods.
You can contact me if you want more detailed info. Anthony
