| Dover | Dover to France and then some.... Posted: Wed April 20, 2005 12:27 PM UTC
I need some help with which ferry is best for getting our car from the UK over to Calais. Is one better than another or cheaper? I know the Eurotunnel from Folkestone is probably the most expensive method and probably don't want to go that way. Now once in France, how long should it take to drive down to Provence - Louberon area? Should we plan to do this all in one day or break up the journey? We're planning the trip for mid-September.
Thanks for any help. |

You can check this page to see which ferry is cheapest in your situation:
http://www.aferry.to/ Be aware that Seafrance gives a 20% discount if you book before april 22nd. But than again, judging by the discounts they give for the period may-august, they may come up with an even better offer if you wait a while... The distance between Calais and the Provence is approximately 1000 km. Depending on what time your ferry would arive, you could manage that distance in a day. For trips like that, being with two drivers, I usually count on spending 1 hour per 100 km, including stops for gas, toilet, food and rest. Sometimes I win an hour but usually this estimate turns out to be accurate. Niekie

Thanks for all the help, Niekie! We're used to driving a lot - shouldn't be too bad a trip.

Check out Speedferries from Dover to Boulogne, some really cheap fares, much cheaper than P&O and Sea France...A guy that lives near me is going for £38 return!
Also remember that Calais has problems with the docking facilities in Calais and also Sea France go on strike so often it makes then unreliable! http://www.speedferries.com/

Thanks, Kettleman! I know you live near the Channel and your information is more than accurate. I'll remember about SeaFrance and will definitely look at the other website.
