Monterosso al Mare Travel Forum

I am going to go to Cinque Terre in ealry May with my parents and looking for which village or town is good for staying.
I am thinking three choices, like "Santa Margherita Ligure", "Monterosso" and "La Spezia".
Which town do you recommend? Which city have more shops or restaurants and colorful atmosphere? Which city do you think even eldery people find fun, because I am visiting there with my parents.

La Spezia is pretty bad (dirty, industrial), although it is much bigger and has many more shops, bars, etc... S.M. Ligure is probably the best choice of the three. You could also stay in other towns such as Lerici and Portovenere. Both very nice, and big enough to have things to do in the evenings and there's a nice ferry ride into the Cinque Terre from both, weather permitting (the most fanstastic way to get there). If you are thinking of using the train (the much cheaper way) to get to the Cinque Terre then they may not be the best choices. Don't forget to eat at an agriturismo when you are there!

I stayed in Manarola at Baranin, and it was great! Awesome views, long walk up a steep hill but worth it!
