The trip, by bus, from Mexico City to Guadalajara is approx. 7.5 hours and, if I'm remembering correctly, the cost should be in the peso-equivalent range of US$40. Busses depart Mexico City from Terminal Norte frequently (advance reservations are rarely necessary) and service in several classes is available. If you want to splurge and are the type who needs/wants all the creature comforts, travel by ETN (luxury bus line). However, most people make the trip by first-class bus, which is less expensive and high quality and they get you there in about the same time.

Guadalajara's modern bus station is huge with 7 connecting buildings called modules (modulo). There is an information booth in the center if you get confused.
Here are sample schedules. Prices are given in US$, but you purchase tickets with pesos. ETN. Executive Class (lujo). Modulo 2. 00:20, 00:40, 01:00, 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00, 21:00, 22:00, 22:20, 22:40, 23:00, 23:10, 23:20, 23:30, 23:50, 24:00. Travel time 7 hours. US $42 Omnibus de Mexico. First Class. Modulo 6. 00:01, 00:30, 11:01, 12:45, 15:30, 21:30, 22:00. Travel time 7 hours. US $39 ETN has large reclining seats comparable to airline first class, video movies, and hostesses serving light snacks. Omnibus de Mexico has video movies. Savvy professionals in Mexico take a night bus so they can nap and arrive in Mexico City in the morning. Be sure to keep a sweater or jacket handy because bus air conditioning gets pretty cold. If you take snacks, you can buy them cheaper outside the bus station. Best wishes, Robert Berryhill, author of Bus Across Mexico www.busacross.com
