Newbury Living in Newbury

Hello

We're checking the possibility of living in Newbury but we've never been there. I've "heard" that is a very quiet place (some call it boring) but i would like to get your view on things like:

- living there
- wich supermarket is there? and commerce
- is there work in the IT or in nearby locations?
- good sites to check for a place to rent for 2 ppl and what are the usual prices
- transportation to london and general transportation
- any other help :)

thanks in advance

My best mate works in Newbury and stays there during the week. He makes it out to be the dullest place on earth and so he doesn't stay there on weekends.
He works in IT for vodafone. Apparently Vodafone are a huge employer in the area.
I think they may be opportunities with them.

There are quite a few supermarkets . . . the usual suspects - Tesco (metro and express), Waitrose, Sainsbury's and more on the outskirts.

Standard trainfare to London can be found on www.nationalrail.co.uk. It probably takes about an hour as it's on a slow line with many stops.

- living there

Personally I like it, good sized town, there are bars and restaurants a nightclub. Reading and Basingstoke are nearby and have cinemas. It's no big city, but if you're looking for a nice town, this one does the job!

- wich supermarket is there? and commerce
Tesco, Sainsbury and Waitrose. Also a Tesco Metro in town. Waitrose again in nearby Thatcham.
High street has the usual shops you'd expect in a town. Also a retail park with big next, homebase, currys etc. up by equally big Tesco.

- is there work in the IT or in nearby locations?
Vodafone is the main employer in town. Also within commuting distance of plenty of places along the M4, Microsoft in Reading. Good area for IT related jobs.

- good sites to check for a place to rent for 2 ppl and what are the usual prices
check the usual proerty websites like rightmove.co.uk they should do rentals. There's plenty of estate agents in town and the rental market round here is big because of VF. You might want to look in Thatcham as well, not such a nice area but the prices are lower. Probably looking around £600-£750 pcm for a 2 bed flat. £500 for one bed.

- transportation to london and general transportation
On the train line to London. Approx 45 minutes. Right on the M4 and A34 so good road links.

- any other help :)
If you have any questions, just send me a message - I've lived here for almost 4 years, rented and bought, moved here for my job.
