hi,
i have taken the road trip(by bus crossing Jordan and Syria to get to lebanon)
when i arrived to Syria ,i took a taxi going to Beirut, the trip takes 2-3 hours going thru mountains and hills and vallys, very nice and pleasant road trip but u have to get a visa for these countries issued on ur passport from their embassies in ur country..saves a lot of time on the border.
i cant recall how much it costs, and even if i did,i`m sure the prices have changed since 1992.
best wishes

What you require in the way of visa depends first on your nationality. The next thing to consider is when you want to travel - visas are only valid for 3 months from the date of issue as a general rule. Depending on what sort of passport you travel on you may find that it is possible to have visas issued at the border of both countries without needing to do anything before hand. You will also need to make sure your Syrian visa is a multiple entry, otherwise you could leave and not be re-admitted on your return.
You really should seek advice on this from the appropriate embassies in your own country before you leave. It will be perfectly possible to do what you want in the way of travelling between these countries I'm sure but you do need to get up to date and accurate information rather than depending on other travellers' experiences that may have no relevance to you at all.
There are excellent and cheap ways to travel from one country to another -either by bus or service taxi.

From Damas to Beirut abt 2-3 hours bus 200 SYP or Taxi about 500SYP person April/2005. U have to go to thier main station called BARAMKAH(not sure the spelling).

To Jordan by taxi abt 2-3hours abt 500SYP by shared taxi...if u bargain u may get cheaper...do not accept touts/agents invitation...walk staright to thier bus/taxi station and negotiate with thier drivers...or go thier bus counter.

Good Luck.
