tango performance

Hi,

There may be perhaps tonnes of such tips in VT, but until I have the time to plough through them one by one, let me post this q here first.

I am a budget traveller. I was wondering if anyone can advise me where I can go watch a good and affordable tango (dance) performance in BsAs. I have seen some on the streets a few years ago. But I hope to go to a nice little theatre hall, nothing touristy, catering to locals, nothing too extravagant (I do not need dinner and champagne to go along).

I think I still have a map of BsAs somewhere, so appreciate it if you can provide the address or maybe the name of the theatre. Thank you!

Muchas gracias!!

"Tanguera"

I was told that the girl dancer is superb. (Mora Godoy)
I suppose same prices as the other show.

If you saw people dancing in the streets, it must have been during the Tango Week.

I'm afraid Tanguera is not what you're looking for.
If you want a small place then I'd go to Café Tortoni. I was there last year with some tourists and they just loved the show, cos it's not extravagant at all. They play famous tango songs and there are dancers too.
You'll have to make a reservation first, so get the phone number and call them in the afternoon.
As a plus you get to visit Café Tortoni, which was the Café were intellectuals used to meet. It's a classic, you'll love it.

Have fun!

Cafe Tortoni is on Avenida de Mayo, you can not miss its garish facade. I will never forget 4 or 5 years ago going on a Thursday night for a tango singer. It was an intimate setting, with perhaps only a couple other tourists in the packed audience. It was a couple hours with Argentine tango music aficionados and a great singer. I also enjoyed my wine and a board of cheeses and meats. Although I have read that they have a good tango show on weekends, I would go back for the pure music.
As a hint for use of VT, now that you have a name like "Cafe Tortoni" change the search box to "keywords" and search for it. Follow where it leads and you can get to a collection of reviews and tips.

Thanks for the great search tip! Duh on my part. Now I don't have to keep asking questions that have been answered.
