Paris 1st timer traveling with kids under 10 yrs
Posted: Wed April 13, 2005 02:50 AM UTC
I am an Asian and I would like to stop over in Paris for four nights before traveling to Spain on 4th June. With my kids in tow, any recommendation for a safe 2 star hotels (with attach bath) and near Metro for easy moving around. Any "must see" attractions suitable for kids or using a reliable local tour operator to bring us around.
Thanks!

You may check out Hotel Darcet (contact number and address on my Paris travel page). It's a standard hotel with a small cafe at the lobby. Room can accommodate upto 3 persons with its own T/B. Within walking distance of a Metro station, burger joint, laundromat and a Chinese resto. Not in the center of Paris, but some blocks away from Moulin Rouge.

Hi, first of all, you need not have clarified that you are Asian. Yes, so am I. Paris is a very diverse city.

Next is your budget. How much do you want to spend? There are many nice 2* hotels in great (and safe) areas. I suggest you take a look at the Paris travel pages here at VT to get some idea of different types of hotels.

For tour operators try ParisVision and Cityrama which are pretty good.

Hi, maybe by identifying I'm an Asian is not clear enough. I'm a typical Singaporean who is a little concern about safety when it comes to traveling especially with 2 young children for the first time. As long as the room is reasonably comfortable for a low low rate I really don't mind.
Appreciate your help.

Paris is a very safe city on the whole. Of course, there are some areas that are a bit on the seedy side as typical of many cities. Usually (and it's true of other cities) it's the areas around the train stations. Some metro stations are infamous such as the Barbes Rochechouart station in Montmarte and also the Chatelet station for example. The main thing is to be aware of your surroundings.

Hello. You might want to consider the Hotel de la Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter. It is 60 euros double with private bath. It is right off Place de la Sorbonne with lots of stores and restaurants and is very safe. It is also near three Metro stations and 2 of these are also RER stations. The Luxembourg Gardens is two blocks in one direction with great playground areas and little boats the kids can rent to float in the fountain. In the other direction a couple blocks is the Mussee de Moyen Age (Cluny Museum) and they have a wonderful medieval garden with a playground for children. Both places are great for picnics with the kids and to meet French children if you are interested.

The web site for the hotel is http://www.hotelsorbonne.com/ or you can access them via http://www.france.com and do a hotel search. I think I have a link on my Paris page if you want to try that.

You will be very safe in Paris, especially at the tourist sites. The French love children so you will be warmly welcomed. You'll love the French children; they are incredibly well behaved and utterly charming.

Have a good trip.

Hi

took my kids to Paris when they were younger (3 & 8). Obviously you must go up the Eiffel Tower but close by are some good traditional funfairs. Kids will love them! Also the Science musuem is a good bet.

I'm going to disneyland with my two kids, 5 and 7, in end May. We are going to stay in disney hotels so i can´t help with hotels.
But i know there are Epat Hotels and IBIS Hotels with metro station for about 50-80 euros with double bed + one single and they accept 2 adults and two kids in. see www.accor.com

I'm thinking about taking a day in Paris by train RER, i'm going to Eifeil tower and i was considering the cience museam...
Do you think one day will be enought for both things?

Have a look at Hotel Rive Gauche, near metro stop Saint Germain des Pres...a nice and very clean 2 star hotel...ideally located in my opinion, because very central..
Rates are affordable for this location...staff is very friendly!
Have a look at the website to have a better idea...: http://www.hotelrivegauche.com

I agree with a good idea to visit Galerie de l'Evolution and also the Zoo...the zoo is really great for children...They will love it!
have a nice trip with your 2 children..

There are actually two zoos in Paris. There is a large one in the Vincennes Park. The one referred to above is the smaller zoo in the Jardin des Plantes which would be much easier to access since it is right downtown. Excellent idea! 8^)

The reason I said that is because there's no reason to be afraid to visit Paris or Europe just because you're Asian. Sorry you have a problem with what I said. You take it the way you want to see it.

Becoming a VT member just to blast me in public is your choice. I have already explained myself. Do you wish to continue your tirade?

Thank you phonixed for your support. What you mentioned about this being an attack by another member may be true. I find it strange that this new member says "I've been following this site for a while now. Never signed up until now......since I was really bothered by the response CALSF made."

This '1st timer traveling with kids under 10 yrs'thread has been ongoing for almost a few days and only now the new member signs up so that 'she' can tongue lash me. I believe that 'she' was looking for any of my comments in the Paris forum to pick through and use them against me.

As anhvsdsu claims that 'she' is Vietnamese and has family living in Paris, it would be helpful, anhvsdsu, don't you think, if you can create a Paris travel page with tips for Asians about Asians in Paris?

Phonixed, thanks for bringing this to light. Yes, I recall Lil. I mean myself and other members were trying to convince another member not to stay too far from central Paris. Lil. made-in my opinion-a very insulting comment about why members like myself who keep recommending central Paris (namely the 5th & 6th districts). She went on to say that these areas are overrun by American tourists and that staying outside these areas are great. She recommended Clichy which is not an area that a first-time visitor to Paris should stay. Clichy is located near the Moulin Rouge in Montmarte, a pretty seedy area in general. However, Lil. proceeded to tout the niceties of staying in Clichy at (surprise!) an apartment that just happened to be rented by (guess who?) Lil. herself.

If this attack was instigated by former VT member Lil. I find this a pretty low attempt at defaming me.

You obviously have a personal hatred of me that seem to go beyond my comments. I have explained why I made those comments and since this is a public forum as you stated, I have a right to voice my opinions as to why I am being attacked as well. What I originally said about not mentioning one's race as Asian does not justify your repeated attacks of me both privately and in the forum
