Tokyo 2 weeks - only got £300! EEK! is it feasible?
Posted: Tue April 12, 2005 07:09 PM UTC
Hello,

Going to Tokyo this Monday (18th) only managed to scrap together £300 for 16days!

Is it feasible? Really?

Staying with a friend of a friend so most nights are covered.
Just got myself a youth hostile card, going to be spending a few nights about the place in youth hostiles, so it'll be cheaper with my membership.
Also got a 7-day rail pass, going to be doing some travelling (which is where the youth hostile part comes in)

Rest of the time will be spent staggering about Tokyo.

What do ya reckon? £300?

Reckon I?ll have any paper spare for a few cool things?

Cheers,
Gav

I'll just put it this way....I spent 4 dollars on an apple and 120 dollars on a toll road....and 50 dollars for a tank of gas. Pray for an amazing exchange rate. That seems really low for 16 days in the most expensive city in the world.

Even 600 dollars is real low for 16 days. Is there one person or two? I came back raped of thousands everytime I go. Another example, taxi ride, after trains close at 12:00am, $50.00 (25 pounds).

You never know, you just might get through it. What are you going to do for food? You can get more-than-decent pre-packaged meals in convenience stores for a decent enough price ($5 for lunch)
Go to a good Karaoke house while there btw.

if your 300 pounds don't include the JR pass and you don't have to worry about most of the nights, I think you should be alright. So your money will be spent in food, subway (for places that you can't get to with the railway) and admission. You can find food from street stalls and convenient stores. Hostel is about 3000 yen a night.

61101 Yen. That should be sufficient do to things. Nothing expensive, like buying apples, taxis, strip shows. Food, go to grocery store or find restaurants that have meals for like 350-550 Yen.

You can do most of the typical tourist stuff for free, like temples, shrines, wander around the streets.

As other posters have said, for food either go to convenience stores, or to grocery stores for packaged foods. At the basement level of Isetan Department store, there at the Tokyo Station, there is a decent food hall. Not too expensive at all. Once in a while you can splurge and have a real meal for about $10-$12US if you eat at the Tokyo Station at the underground mall.

Your problem is entertainment. I suppose you can walk around parks, and temples, but even so, some of them charge a min. of 500 yen entrance fee.

I believe that the Green Pass and the Ordinary Pass is valid for the Yamanote Loop (subway) which goes around Tokyo.
