| Medan | Candian working in Medan Posted: Mon April 11, 2005 03:02 AM UTC
I am condidering a job in Medan starting in September 2005. I have heard travel warnings about going to this region.
I am concerned about safety (terrorist attacks on foreigners)a single female travelling alone, and also health issues. If anyone could help me out, that would be great! |

Hi,
Nobody knows whether the earthquake will attack Medan or not. But I can tell you that the lattest news of earthquake was happened in the west coast of Indonesia's Sumatra island yesterday. There were no victims but still it caused panic among residence in West Sumatera. According to seismologists, the quake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit at 1:30 am (1730 GMT) with its epicentre estimated off the coast about 100 kilometres (60 miles) southwest of the Sumatran town of Padang. Last January I was in Medan for 15 days. This area was safe (there was not terrorist attack). There were many foreigners worked for tsunami. Some people suggested me not to travel around Sambu Bus Station at night to avoid bad risks. However Medan is nice city. I love that place. Don't forget to see Kesawan square if u have been there, it is unique eating place.
