We are going to Yosemite from LA on the 15th June . Plan to stay 2 nights and then go onto Lake Tahoe. Where to stay and how to get to Lake Tahoe + what the roads are like. We are a party of 5 Adts/ 2 Children.

By then the snows should be gone and the road through Tuolomne Meadows will be open. It's beautiful driving up there anyway. Take that to the east entrance of the park and to U.S. 395 north. You'll go into Nevada for a period and then take NV 207 west straight to Stateline, NV on the southwest corner of the lake.

There has been a record amount of snow in the Sierras this year, so a June 15 date for open roads through Tioga Pass (the road going to the east) isn't guaranteed. See this link for opening dates of Tioga Pass for past 24 years. You'll see that there are some years the road was still closed on June 15.

Check with the Park rangers when you are there to see if the road has opened. If not, you can go west through Merced or Fresno, and then north on Highway 99 to Lake Tahoe. Roads are very good.
When you get to Tahoe, I recommend renting a house for your size of group. See my Tahoe City page for recommendations if you are planning to stay on the north shore, which I prefer over south shore.
Have fun!
Karen

For a more scenic drive on the west to Lake Tahoe, don't go all the way to 99 to the west. Go northbound on Highway 49 through the gold rush country. The towns are very quaint and fun. Then head east on Hwy 50 to go to south shore, or I-80 to go to North Shore.

For extra fun, hike the Tahoe to Yosemite Trail (a mere 180 mile hike!) It's beautiful country, though a lot of up and downs...
Assuming you want to go by road, would do the Highway 49 route -- much more scenic, though may take you as long or longer than going into the valley using Highway 99.
Agree that renting a cabin or house is probably best.
