| Albuquerque | Relocating to ABQ next month Posted: Wed April 6, 2005 06:54 PM UTC
Hi, I will be relocating to ABQ in May. I'm looking for an apt in the north east section. Can anyone tell me the nice blocks or cross streets to pick an apt? Here are a couple I narrowed down, Louisiana Blvd btwn Montogmery and Osuna, or San Mateo Lane btwn San Meteo Blvd and Louisiana or Topke btwn San Pedro and San Mateo. Also is an anual salery of about $50.000 a year enough to live comfortably in ABQ? I will be living in ABQ for at least a year or longer if I like it. I also need to buy a car soon after I get there, any tips. Thanks; Scott

The general area you picked is good, but don't get anything until you have seen it. Abq is full of small neighborhoods, some better than others.
$50K/yr should be quite adequate.

Hey! Well it depends on many things whether you'll like it here. Mostly on your interests and lifestyle. It seems there's a lot to do for outdoor-sy people.
About housing, it is really worth coming to look at it first, or spend a few days in a hotel at first. What you mentioned is good from my impression, especially the first choice. I would also like to let you know about the "Pinnacle" appartments on Wyoming, just North of the large street "Paseo Del Norte" and also of the area referred to as Uptown (Louisiana just north of I-40, near the two large malls). They are both nice areas, the first more upscale but too quite for me, the second pretty busy and closer to the Base/Downtown and obviously Uptown, where you may be very probably be working. 50k in Albuquerque, if you are single will be way more than enough!

BTW, if you are still in healthcare, the only way to make 50,000/yr is to work part time :) o/w between and healthy hourly wage, and overtime, you'll be making quite a bit more. Most of the nurses and RTs I know out here make more than enough to support travel, home buying, and outdoors recreation. Also, great homeloan and other programs are available to encourage healthcare workers to stay in the state. email me on VT for more info if you would like.
Also, there are 2 other posters also looking at relocation - so lurk in their questions for more info too :) Good luck! Kymba

Live music with bars are mostly downtown about a mile west of the U on Central AVE. If you go there at night I'd recommend a taxi since you have to walk through a mildly seedy part of Central.
On the otherhand east of the U along Central is very pedestrian friendly and there are many good places to eat and a few bars. Try Kelly's for outdoor food and microbrewery and try Flying Star cafe for great desserts and coffee. There is a Starbuck's in the U bookstore and good food accross Central from the bookstore at the Frontier restaurant.
