Hello All,

Cala Gonone: Would you recommend a 10 day holiday here??

My boyfriend and I are reasonbly adventurous, want a sort of 'beach holiday', but with other sights and activities too. Is there a beach at Cala Gonone? Is it far? Is it a 'holiday resort' or a working village?

We're thinking of renting a chalet at the campsite in Cala Gonone, has anyone else done this? Or have any other recommendations?

We won't have our own transport, is relying on public transport an option?

Or is anyone willing to share with us their idyllic place they have discovered in Northern Sardinia? Somewhere absolutely beautiful...??

Thank you!

Katrina ;-)

The area is wonderful.. The best sea and beaches of italy..
A few useful information here
http://www.calagonone.org/indexinglese.htm (click on "coast").

I'll recommed it.... (like most of the Sardinian coasts), much better if not in August..
Doing without your own transport may make you lose lots of good beaches, as the "sport" is to change it once or twice a day, searching for always new places.
A medium sized scooter, IMHO, would be the best way... better than a car.
Or, even better, rent a boat... There is also a marvellous rocky coast.
( i know better tht coast up to the north, thoug)
Then buy a map and/or ask around, and go!

Ciao
Francesco

Thanks a lot for all the information!

We're travelling mid-June so should miss most of the crowds I think? Unfortunately I don't even drive in my own country and my boyfriend has only passed his test a few months. Would he still be able to hire a scooter?

Also the boats - do you know how much they cost to hire?

Thanks a lot,

Kat

Ciao Katrina...
well, scooters nowadays are very easy to drive... The most have no gears at all, only accelerator/brake. That's all.
In term of driving licence, i think your B/F can drive whatever his licence allow in your country.
For us, if the licence allowing motorbikes has less than 2 years, there is a limitation in term of power of the bike you can use.
50 cc are license free ( for > 18) but you cannot ride them in 2... So you would need 2 bikes.
Sorry for boat price, i don't have a clue.

Anyway, june is great and you can probably get a deal..
Buone vacanze
