Tortola Safe in Road Town for lady alone?
Posted: Tue April 5, 2005 01:35 AM UTC
I will be in Road Town by myself for two days. Anyone had any problems as far as safety, theft etc. Walking around with a backpack O.K.? I have had an incident in Costa Rica and wanted to know if this is a concern in Tortola? Thank you.

The British Virgin Islands are relatively safe & absolutely wonderful, you'll love Tortola. Bear in mind BVI is much wealthier than some of the other Caribbean & Central American countries that have so many problems with crime. And they aren't as indulgent to criminals as some of the US territories.

I am planning to do a trip by myself to the BVI's in the near future, hopefully next winter.

Not to worry. I've spent over three years going down for business at least once a month if not more, and have lots of local friends. There is always theft anywhere when tourist get lazy and careless, but Tortola over all is very safe. To my knowledge there hasen't been any violent crimes in years, and is still considered one of the safest island. Relax and enjoy a painkiller which is one of the local specialities!
