Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Ephesus To Ephesus
Posted: Fri March 7, 2003 07:32 PM UTC
Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Marmaris to Ephesus by bus? Also, where is the best place to stay overnight close to Ephesus? I am looking to spend no more than $12 per person (for two people in a double), preferebly with bath. Can anyone recommend a place? Will I be able to stay overnight nearby Ephesus and then just go to Ephesus for one day and head back to Marmaris after 5pm? Thanks.

The city closest to Ephesus is Kusadasi. It's on the coast, north of Marmaris. There are dozens of guesthouses and hotels there. I don't remember the exact distance from there to Ephesus, but it's quite close.

You can also stay at Selcuk, just the nearest town to the site, we stayed at hotel Hitite there, very good standard, payed ab. 25 US per double room, of course with pr. bath- also good breakfast incl., but after some hard bargaining... they might ask for the double in full season. If you stay near Ephesus do not miss Sirince, an old Greek village at the surrounding hills, go there early evening and try local food and wines at ARTEMIS restaurant- excellent place!

Hi there,
I reccomend you to stay in Selcuk which is the closest town to Ephesus. If you wanna stay in a nice place with a reasonable price and also to be in touch with other backpackers "Getaway Pension" has a very nice atmosphere. You can check out the website. www.atillasgetaway.com
You can easily visit Ephesus in one day. Transport is easy. But if you have some extra money to spend, i recommend you to book a daily tour because ephesus is full of stones:) Heaps of agencies in Selcuk town, and the prices are fixed everywhere. It must be about 30$ for a one day tour.

I am guessing you are looking at something like 180 to 200 Miles. Figure at least 4 hours probably 5. You'll love the buses though. Quite comfortable. Kusadasi is the closest major city. There is so much to see there. Are you sure you just want tostay a day? Don't forget to go up the mountain and see the last known dwelling of Mary. It is a neat place.

We stay just outside of Kusadasi in the summer. The best kept secret in Turkey are the less crowded beaches outside Kusadasi.

and to do ephesus takes about 4-5 hours , you stay over night there, the morning do the sightseeing and head back to Marmaris..it is possible...

Thank you the Ephesus Inn and the Atilla's Getaway look great. My travel agent in the US who I booked my international flights said it was a 2 hour drive to Ephesus, so at first I thought it would be do-able in 2 days. Unfortunately that is all the time I have. Should I try to go or should I just stay in Marmaris and tour that area before my 1 week sail trip? On the other hand, maybe I could take the overnight bus from Cappadocia to Ephesus (is there one?) and have one day there, then stay over night and have a half-day till I leave in the late afternoon. That may work out. how are the overnight buses anyways? Comfortable?

I am sorry, that wasn't clear. I will be coming from Cappadocia to Marmaris for a 1 week sail trip. But I will have 2 extra days before the sail trip starts, and I wanted to visit Ephesus.

The last itinerary you've made looks like the best. There are overnight buses from Capadoccia to Selcuk or Kusadasi. And the buses are very comfortable, with air-con and non-smoking. They also serve tea and cakes in the buses. You can sleep all the way. And you have enough time to visit Ephesus, it is a fabolous place and a must in Turkey.

Hey Emily , do everthing excluding skipping Ephesus..
there is basically nothing in Marmaris and I know the reason you are going there is just your sail trip..
Most probably your travel agent in Us is lack of info about Turkey ..
but do it girly , you won't regret..
.
P.S have u found accomadation info on Cappadocia...???

Hi,
From Marmaris to Ephesus or the nearest town Selcuk (2 Kms) takes 200Kms. It means about 2 hours by bus. You can stay in Derya Pension about that price. you can have a look to this web page http://www.deryapension.com . Don't give up going to Ephesus because it's really spectacular region. Have a nice trip:)

The closest place is Selcuk as one of the people told, it is nearly possible to walk to the ruins in not even an hour. Theres a small, clean and cheap pension near the bus station in Selcuk. Leave the bus station and follow the main road, on the right side u will pass the centre of the town. Cross the road when there are some small shops. On the parallel road to the main road in direction Izmir u find at a corner a small pension, where u can get a room for 15 Million lira (August 2002). Nice familiy, breakfast included.
