| Kandy | accomodation in kandy Posted: Tue March 29, 2005 02:36 PM UTC
I am a budget traveler, used to traveling in a group, but i will be travelin alone this time round and wanted to know bout cheap accomodation in Colombo. Im willing to shell out 5 to 10 dollars for a day, and by cheap i dont mean a junkyard, like maybe Im looking for a good deal here. Or do any locals offer cheap and neat accomodation. Something i can book in advance before reaching Colombo and dont get looted by agents at the airport. I have an open ticket and might travel in August or december!!
I asked a Sri Lankan VT'er the same question but unfortunely he is too busy. All replies will be really appreciated thnx in advance. |

I recently was in Sri Lanka with some friends. We stayed in a YWCA and we visited a YMCA for a meeting. It's cheap, basic, clean accomodation, I don't remember the contact number since a friend organised it but look in a Lonley planet guide and it'll have the Head Quarters listed.

It seems like you meant Kandy since one of your previous entries was asking about Colombo budget accomodation. Well Kandy has literally hundreds of guesthouses, some of them are just outside Kandy but within walking distance and the walk is really nice in the cool weather. We stayed in Spica Holiday Home (it's on the net), it's run by a retired couple and has the most amazing view since it's on top of a hill. It's quite difficult to find but you can call them up and they can give you directions. As I said before there are many places to stay ranging from a room in someone's house with breakfast and you pay extra for dinner (which is always very good) to luxury hotels and many of them are not in guidebooks or on the internet so whilst you're there you might stumble across something to keep in mind for another trip. I'm not sure when you intend to go, but July/August is near the Kandy festivals so book well in advance.
Hope this helps. Kate
