We have hired a jeep to take us into Horton Plains and to see The World's End.
How far does the jeep usually take you into the Plains, and how far is the trek to The Worlds End? We'd also like to know what sort of foot wear would be appropriate for this terrain. Obviously stilletoes and flip flops are out of the question, but would trainers suffice, or are a good pair of walking boots/light trekking shoes needed? Any info about this trip would be good. We are staying at the Tea Factory in Niriwa Eliya (apologies for spelling)and think this trip may take nearly a whole day. |

Just to add on: Do leave the hotel by about 6.00 am as it is better to get to worlds end before around 11 am as the mist sets in after that.

You will need to get up before 6am - you need to start the walk at first light - you will have to be at the ticket office for 6am. The mist starts by 9am and gets progressively worse until it completely gets swallowed by 11am. Trainers are fine but it gets flooded and boggy in parts

Hi Guys.
I have just returned from Sri Lanka. Thank you for your advice about Horton Plains. We left the Tea Factory Hotel at 6am, and were walking in the plains by 8am. We'd finished the loop trek by 10:15am. There was some mist at Worlds End, but the sun was shining and patches cleared, so the views were good, and we heard music from the village/ settlement down below. Very mystical and breathtaking. Bakers Falls was also good. Our trainers were fine for walking in, and there are new observation decks both here and at the World's End, and the Mini World's End. Thanks again for your tips.
