| Killarney | Killarney over Easter Posted: Wed March 23, 2005 04:02 PM UTC Hi, I'll be visiting Killarney with my mother over Easter (Sunday-Tuesday). Will it be business as usual over the holiday? What are the highlights of County Kerry ? We would be interested in seeing spectacular scenery rather than castles, towns etc. Also, any recommendations for pubs in the evenings ? Thanks in advance, Kevin |

Easter will be one of the busiest times down there in the Kerry region.
I presume you will have a car? There is definitely lots of scenary to be seen. The three main lakes of Killarney occupy a broad valley stretching south between the mountains. The three lakes and the mountains that surround them are all within the Killarney National Park. Nearest the town is the Lower Lake (Lough Leane) studded with islands and having on its eastern shore the historic Muckross Abbey and Ross Castle. The wooded peninsula of Muckross separates the Lower from the Middle Lake sometimes called Muckross Lake. Check out www.corkkerry.ie for details on the whole region. Pubs will be open, normally only closed on Good Friday. The locals are very friendly down there, and they will point you in the direction of the pub types that you require. Have a great time, and I hope the weather stays good for you.

Hi,
From what I know it's basically business as usual, Killarney being the tourist centre of the region. Maybe on Easter sundays some sites/museums will be closed, and you may need to make reservations for dining (it's recommend in other countries anyway). Sites: the Ring of Kerry is nice to drive and it will not be as busy as in the main season. If you want to get out of the hustle you can drive inland on the Ring (for example from Waterville or Sneem), linger a bit on Valentia Island or south from there on the Skelligg Ring. Or: (instead) drive south from Kenmare on the Beara Ring: great scenery, and less touristy. Don't know the pubscene in Killarney, but in Kenmare I had a great (music) experience in "The Square Pint". Have a great trip! P.
