| Ocho Rios | Weather conditions August through December Posted: Wed March 23, 2005 06:04 AM UTC
We are planning our vacation at the Sandals in Ocho Rios. Is August considered the "rainy season"? If so, is there a better time to travel between August and December? I would appreciate any input as soon as possible. Thank you! Nancy :)

Hi,
The later the better! Rainy season is officially from June - November.

Hi! my husband and I spent ten glorious days in negril in the month of august a few years ago. Although it was quite humid, a daily rain shower would freshen up the resort between 1 and 2 p.m...like clockwork! Great time for an afternoon nap, right?
I'm pasting a couple of paragraphs for a very informative website(http://www.seejamaicacheaply.com/weather_f "Although Jamaica lies in the Caribbean 'hurricane belt', relatively few touch Jamaica. The last great storm to hit the island was Hurricane Gilbert, which roared ashore in 1988, causing immense damage and killing 45 people. The two giant storms of 1998 - Hurricanes George and Mitch - were both near misses. Officially the hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30; August and September are peak months. (All the hurricanes that have struck Jamaica this century have done so before mid-September). A traditional rhyme is 'June too son, July stand by, August prepare you must, September remember, October all over'" HAVE A GREAT TIME!!

Thank you! We are so anxious to go, but maybe we'll wait and go in December.
Since we live in a cold climate, we'll appreciate it even more!

I'm all for your afternoon nap idea! And thank you for the website quote. I read somewhere else also to think of the rain as "liquid sunshine". How could you complain?!
