Living in Bologna
Posted: Fri September 13, 2002 12:51 PM UTC
What are your thoughts about living in Bologna? If you live there what do you like or don't like... If you visit it would you live there? Why?

I'll probably be transfered there sometime next year and I would love to hear your opinion.

Thank you!
Miguel

I've only spent a long weekend there, so can't tell you what it's like to live there. But it's a great place to visit - splendid old buildings, excellent rich food, and a good centre to visit other interesting places nearby. And, as I'm sure you must know, it boasts one of Europe's oldest universities, so there must be a rich cultural life. Go for it!

I live very near Bologna, Let's say it's the major city in my region, and I really am fond of hoppping there by train on Saturdays for some shopping. Bologna is an old city, small but not too small, deeply accultured and full of young people because of the oldest University in Europe, As a consequence, it is very fashionable and high-spirited. And fun-loving riviera is not that far away...

Bologna is beautiful town and nice place to live in, I am sure you'll love it.
There you can meet people from all over the world, studing on Bologna University - the oldest University in whole Europe.
There you can taste the wide world famous cuisine of Bologna - spagetti al bolognese, lasagne al forno, tortellino in brodo and many many more.
There you can watch the best basketball of Italy and top football too.

Haha, spagetti al bolognese!!! See, it's worth it already!

Seriously, the city has museums, monuments, lots of nice old stuff.
But nothing compared to the countryside around the city, especially toward Firenze (Toscany)... just gorgeous!

Bologna is beautiful town and very nice for living there but also very expensive. I spend (lived) there 3months this year and really enjoyed my time there. Small shops are very expensive but big supermarkets are OK. Nighlife is vibrant becauze of all that students around. Restorants are very good but also very expensive. I lived in inner centre of old town, 3 minutes of slow walk from Piazza maggiore. Streets in old towns could be sometimes be very noisy, especially during nights. Lived in Foresteria Universita and there was a lot of people all around world (Finland, Poland, Spain, Argentina, Italy) and all of us agreed that Bologna is expensive! Public transport are good and on time but there is big problem if you has a car. Parking place is very hard to find and sometimes most of streets are closed for cars.
