Tucson in May / Omni Resort / Priceline Packages
Posted: Tue March 22, 2005 03:21 PM UTC
Hi,
I'm new to this board, and am hopeful of finding some advice!

My husband recently announced that he wanted to spenda week in Tucson for vacation.

Being the frugal type, I was checking out Priceline.com, and found a package (air/hotel/rental car) for about $560.00 per person for the first week in May 2005 at the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort and Spa. Neither of us are golfers, but the write up looked pretty good (and if I can find a deal at a nice place all the better).

The flight times aren't listed, so I know I'd be running a risk on getting ideal departure/arrival times, but was wondering if anyone might be able to give me any constructive feedback on the following:

-Omni Resort in Tucson
-Priceline; ever used it for these types of packages?..and your experience?
-Early May in Tucson...typical weather?

Many thanks!

I live in Scottsdale and I recommend you come here rather than Tucson but if you must...
I've stayed at Omni's before. Thay are all really nice hotels. In Tucson, I would research more spa places. They are famous for those and if you don't golf, you're wasting money staying at a golf resort, gaurenteed.
I've used Priceline before. They are pretty good.
Weather in May: HOT HOT HOT> Bring tank tops, shorts, sunscreen, and swimsuit. Will be in the 90's easily!

Hi Sea Urchin,

Weather in Tucson in early May is HOT. I lived in Tucson for 4 years while attending the UofA there, and it's hot and dry. Definitely bring sunscreens and light colored summer clothes. It can exceed 100F.

Good luck.

We enjoyed Tucson. Sorta depends on what you like doing. Are you planning on sunning by the pool or exploring the neighbourhood?

We spent 4 days there in March. The weather was warm, but still liveable. I'm not sure what we would do in the heat of May if it is as hot as people say it is. We visited the local desert parks, went to the Sonaran desert museum, drove out to the White Dove mission, etc.

You should check out prices of just flying there yourself, renting a car for a week and staying in a local hotel. I don't think a week car rental was much more than $200 and in early 2004, hotel rooms at the Best Western that we stayed at were between $60 and $70 per night, so it may be cheaper just to book things yourself.

Good luck with your plans.

I don't know about the Omni Resort in Tucson but I do know about the weather. If you aren't golfers why stay at a golf resort - you'll certainly be paying extra for it.

Typical early May weather is sunny and dry with afternoon high temperatures in the high 80's and low 90's.

Hot is relative and that's not hot to me but I live in Phoenix.
